Overview

Azure Local node. The Dell AX-640 is a 1U dual-socket node built on the PowerEdge R640, and one of the original members of Dell's AX line for Azure Local (formerly Azure Stack HCI). It is a compute-first node: lots of cores in a single rack unit.

Where it fits

Clusters that are constrained by rack space or that lean toward compute over storage. Run it with storage-dense AX-740xd nodes when a cluster needs both. For new deployments, also compare the current-generation AX-650 and APEX Cloud Platform for Azure. Madatech sizes the cluster, sources it through our Dell channel, and runs the build.

Key features

1U, dual-socket — maximum cores per rack unit for compute-led clustersBuilt on the widely deployed PowerEdge R640 platformiDRAC9 for out-of-band management and lifecyclePart of Dell's original AX line — long operational track record on Azure LocalPairs with the storage-dense AX-740xd for a mixed compute / capacity cluster

How we deploy it

1

Assess

Workloads, vCPU and memory targets, sites and growth; set cluster size and node count.

2

Size and source

Configure against the Azure Local catalogue, order through our Dell channel, stage and burn-in.

3

Deploy and hand over

Rack, cluster, register to Azure, apply policy and backup, hand over runbooks.
